GO DEEPER
All of the actions in this lesson help us connect with other people, especially the people we care about.
Some of these interactions are quick and brief — a hug, a wave, a high-five. They create an instant effect.
Others are longer — cooking together, spending time together, having a conversation. These create a better quality of interaction. We call this bonding.
All of these things trigger a chemical in the brain known as oxytocin. It is a chemical that is related to feelings of bonding and trust.
The effects of this chemical are positive. It helps you feel connected, safe, and close to the people around you.
This is why spending time with your family, your partner, or your best friend can make you feel so good — your brain is helping you build strong relationships.
